WHY HIPOTRONICS

Half a century ago, there were very few choices for manufacturers and utilities that desired to do proof testing on their high voltage equipment. Test equipment was often limited in its capability, somewhat crude, and usually homemade. Hipotronics began to change that landscape in the early 1960s, with a series of innovations that made high voltage test equipment a powerful and reliable tool for ultimately ensuring the safe delivery of electrical power around the world. We continue that tradition to this day, with an emphasis on ideas and innovation, operational excellence, quality, continuous improvement and customer care.

Lately, it seems as though every manufacturer of high voltage test equipment makes the claim that they are “The Market Leader”. Answering the question “Why Hipotronics?” is our way of explaining our heritage, our company values, and what leadership means to us – so that our customers can decide for themselves.

Proven Expertise

We believe that expertise is more than simply knowing how to put together a test system. True high voltage expertise starts with our engineers, participating in standards committees and technical symposia, visiting factories and utilities around the world, talking to our customers every day to understand how and why they test their products. It is this application knowledge, developed over 50 years, which sets us apart from our many competitors. Expertise is translating this application knowledge to a product design that is rugged and reliable, yet elegant, intuitive and simple. It is building those products and delivering them on time, with an attention to detail and quality that only comes from an experienced team of loyal craftsmen. And perhaps the most valuable expertise is the ability to provide a lifetime of knowledgeable support and service for our products and our customers.

Installed Base

When it comes to market leadership, we believe our global customer base speaks for itself: There is simply no other high voltage test equipment manufacturer on the planet that can claim as many installed systems in as many countries around the world as Hipotronics and the Hubbell High Voltage Test Business brands. No one else even comes close. That kind of brand loyalty only comes from decades of building test gear right the first time and providing exceptional support for it after the sale.

Built to last

We know that while some test labs and utility trucks are quite pristine, the vast majority of these environments can really put the ruggedness and longevity of our equipment to the test. Our Engineers travel the globe servicing old Hipotronics systems, and our inhouse repair and calibration facility in Brewster, NY sees the full historical spectrum of Hipotronics gear every single week. We take great pride in the fact that much of the equipment originally built and installed by Hipotronics is still in use today – 25, 40, even 50 years later! It may be dirty, scratched or dented. Perhaps repainted, perhaps still sporting the original shade of 60s avocado green or 70s powder blue. But while our logo may be obscured or faded, the longterm quality and performance are still evident.


Today, test equipment manufacturers abound, with everything from high-tech instruments to low-end copies and every niche in between. And nearly all of them can trace their company heritage or their product design back to Hipotronics, or to one of our other Hubbell High Voltage Test Business companies. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then we gratefully accept the compliment!
